The following story was written by Veronica Vogelman '26, psychology and Spanish major and global studies minor.

2024 — Moving through a sea of bright red, 黄色的, 橙色, 还有蓝色纱丽, 我发现自己与我见过的最华丽的拱门面对面,这是通往印度泰姬陵风景如画的大门, 在它所有的荣耀中, feeling like I was in a postcard. In mere moments, it began pouring.

Countries Across Asia

. I spent an entire semester hopping across Southeast Asia, making my way through India, Guided by two program directors, one from the United States and one from

Before entering each country, each of the 10 program participants presented a “country briefing,,他们花了一周的时间研究这个国家的历史, political standings, international relations, 商业环境, 货币, 菜, 宗教, 语言, 和文化.

Over the semester, 我们被赋予了完全的独立性,并被鼓励在课间进行探索, which were taught in person and over Zoom, allowing for maximum flexibility.

. John Peters, Associate Provost for International Engagement. “Students are challenged to engage academically and culturally.

International Business Training

We learned how different kinds of corporate businesses operate, from supply chains to marketing, to corporate culture, 法律问题, and global expansion.

“ASAP was an incredible experience with so many opportunities, not just to travel across 11 different countries, but also by being able to apply what I was 学习 hands-on,” said Elizabeth Granholm ’25. I gained a greater appreciation for the world around me.”

Beyond building our professional portfolio, By the time we were halfway through the trip, 我们大多数人在任何国家都能自如地进行任何形式的过境, 包括, but not limited to, 火车, 公共汽车, 出租车, 嘟嘟车(东南亚流行的三轮机动车辆), and sometimes even boats. 我们几乎可以在每个国家的任何地方旅行,包括我所见过的一些最有趣的文化遗址, like Angkor Wat in 柬埔寨, Doi Suthep in 泰国, the Cu Chi Tunnels in 越南, the Floating Village in 柬埔寨, the Supertrees in 新加坡, and the Monkey Temple in 尼泊尔.

Unbelievable Excursions & 经历

Thanks to the flexibility of ASAP, Ijen, on the island of Java in 印尼. The volcano is one of two in the whole world that has blue lava.

In my three months away from home living out of a suitcase, I learned more than I ever have in most of my life combined. 我学会了如何克服语言障碍与人交流, how to be adaptable and flexible, and how to be respectful of other cultures.
